Meditate With Me

There are tons of studies that show that meditation helps relieve stress and helps you regain energy. You don’t have to light candles or sit cross legged. You can achieve a 'mini-meditation' throughout the day quite easily...chose a quiet place at home or at the office. Think about taking a short walk during break/lunch time...even just three minutes to just calmly breathe in nature is nourishing. Close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths. Relax your body. Think of something positive, visit your happy place. Mine is chilling near water or 'head in the sky' drifting upwards towards the clouds.

It's about 'letting go' of the noise.

Get outside!

Start the day, on 'positive'!

Wake up a bit earlier each morning. Perfect time to clear the head. Meditate. Reflect. Breathe.

Carry 'positive thoughts' with you during the day.

Fill your heart with joy!

Ditch energy leaches.

Increase your 'life energy' long term with a good practice of reflection, breathing and meditating.

Surround yourself with positive people. Leave  negative energy behind.

RED RED RED

World AIDS Day
In these last 20 years, medical research has sparked marvelous breakthroughs in the treatment of HIV/AIDS around the world--even in developing countries where for many years since the outbreak of this once-deadly, now nearly chronic, disease treatment was inaccessible due to cost.

Yet before we pat ourselves on the back too much for the successes we have made around the world in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, we must remember that many successes were hard-won and some have yet to come. Let's pray and hope for future successes and never become complacent about this dreaded disease.

What is a pathobiologist doing on an ART blog?

I had two cousins graduate from the OVC . The eldest is considered to be one of Canada's best "chicken" doctors, his younger brother who also specialized in small birds settled in Nova Scotia working for the government in poultry control. Chickens must be big business in Canada! I'll spare you the teasing and the numerous chicken jokes that the family plucks out every time we all come together. So it's no wonder I like to share OVC news.
Prof. Scott Weese, a pathobiologist at the Ontario Veterinary College, is quoted in a New York Times story this week. The article looks at how methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is increasingly becoming a problem for veterinarians, and quotes numerous experts, including Weese.

Weese is a leading researcher on two zoonotic pathogensClostridium difficile and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus — and in veterinary infection control. He has done numerous studies on the subject, including how therapy dogs visiting hospitals and nursing homes may be able to transmit MRSA to people and how pigs are now on the list of potential MRSA carriers.

His work with therapy dogs is of special interest to me since I was involved with a program where veterinarians brought in various animals to study the behavioural interaction between patient and animal. Patients who never spoke wouldn't stop talking to these furry visitors. Thinking back now maybe there's something to be said about that! Smile!

In April,2009 Scott was a guest speaker at Bookshelf's Cafe Scientifique.
